'Black Widow,' Other Marvel Titles Officially Delayed

Marvel fans may have seen a glimmer of hope flicker through the WandaVision trailer and late 2020 Disney+ release date, but their crossed fingers for anything else can be seen simply as wishful thinking.

Black Widow, which was clinging onto its November 6 theatrical release date, has officially surrendered its 2020 premier and will be pushed back to May 7, 2021. Variety has confirmed that Marvel Studios has postponed not only Black Widow but the entirety of their Phase 4 slate.

Eternals will also take a hit as the films are shuffled around, and instead of ringing in the new year while premiering in February 2021, will send out the year on November 5. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Five Rings has been spared from such a serious delay and will move from May 2021 to July 2021.

Black Widow now takes over the spot where Shang-Chi sat before, whereas Eternals faces a complete year's worth of delay time. WandaVision will be Marvel's only release for 2020 and will stream on Disney+ on October 30.

Though the weight of the announcements may crush eager fans' spirits, Marvel Studios has been clear that they still aim to stick to their vision and deliver these movies to the big screen, just not as soon as one may have hoped. Still, Kevin Feige and his hard-working crew ensure that Phase 4 will receive the same grand-scale event treatment, just as the past twelve years of Marvel have been seen.
