Elongated Man Will be Recast in 'The Flash' Season 7
When something is posted on the internet, it lives forever, no matter how hidden or buried away it may seem, and no amount of fame can serve as a saving grace.
Actor Hartley Sawyer was fired from The CW's The Flash earlier this summer as a consequence of a series of racist and misogynistic tweets. The Flash has opted to re-write the character of Ralph Dibney, known as "Elongated Man," who became a recurring role up until the sixth season.
Sawyer's reputation was under siege after his tweets surfaced, and The CW was silent on how they would proceed with the situation at hand for some time. More recently in an interview with EW, showrunner Eric Wallace has spoken up on Hartley's behavior and the measures that The CW will take. It has been made clear that Dibney will still be around, despite Sawyer's departure from the show.
"In order to wrap [The Flash] up, which we're going to do at the top of season 7, Ralph has to be part of that," Wallace said. "Now thank goodness, Ralph is a guy who can change faces and his appearance in many ways. Without giving any spoilers away, there are a couple of ways that we can have Elongated Man still appear in at least one episode this season to wrap that storyline up, that gets us what we need and still allows fans to say goodbye to the character, at least for the indefinite future."
It was then added that even though the character won't be around for much longer, a recast will still be in order. The tweets, such as then ones seen below, shocked fans as the comments were blatantly harsh and unfiltered crudely, allowing the actor's true colors to bleed through. There has been no word yet on who will take over as Elongated Man.
