Paramount+ To Launch in Early Spring
The number of streaming services grows by the day as big-name studios look to conquer the small screens.
ViacomCBS is looking to replace All Access CBS in turn for a new streaming service, Paramount+. The service will first be offered to those in the United States and Latin America on March 4, 2021, before spanning out to reach a more global market. The Nordic region will have access to Paramount+ on March 25, 2021, and then Australia in mid-2021. Canada will simply rebrand CBS All Acess to Paramount+ on March 4.
There will be an investor event hosted by ViacomCBS on February 24, 2021, that will break down an extended and comprehensive look at CBS's latest platforms, including Showtime OTT and Pluto TV. The first announcement that CBS intended to rebrand came in September 2020, and with the rebrand, will bring about new series. The Godfather (1972) is to have a limited run based on the original material, and it has been reported that Grease (1978) and Flashdance (1983) spinoffs are in the works as well.
A number of different networks owned by ViacomCBS will be integrated into Paramount+, including BET, Nickelodeon, MTV, The Smithsonian Channel, and many others. "We're excited to establish one global streaming brand in the broad-pay segment that will draw on the sheer breadth and depth of the ViacomCBS portfolio," ViacomCBS CEO and president Bob Bakish said.
