REPORT: '90s Animated Spider-Man To Be Featured in 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2'
While the plot for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 (2022) is kept under lock and key by Sony Pictures Animation, there's no mystery that the next installment of the saga will feature an array of web-slingers from a variety of Spider-Man media. The post-credits teased Miguel O'Hara's big-screen debut, but Spider-Man 2099 may scratch just the surface.
Comic Book Resource reported that That Hashtag Show's Spider-Senses are tingling, claiming that voice actor Christopher Daniel Barnes will reprise his role in the animated sequel. Barnes is known for voicing the Peter "Spider-Man" Parker in Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994-1998). The character is most famously known for the "Spider-Man Pointing Meme" that can be found across every inch of the internet. That Hashtag Show reports that his role will be small and that the movie will replicate the art style in which the show used. They also note that this interpretation will be inserted into a few key scenes before rejoining the cast of wall-crawlers during the final battle.
Barnes voiced the titular web-slinger in a 65-episode, multi-season cartoon television series. He has lent his voice to a handful of other Marvel characters, such as Spider-Man Noir, Electro, Vulture, Spider-Man 2099, Spyder-Knight, and others. Barnes can also be noted for his talents as the voice of Prince Eric in Disney's The Little Mermaid (1989). Barnes has yet to comment on the report.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 is still awaiting an official title and has yet to release a public synopsis, though rumors have speculate that The Spot will pose a threat of some sort. Another rumor has pointed in the direction that Cindy "Silk" Moon will be another fresh face among other masked menaces that will appear, though Sony has not issued any confirmation nor have they debunked the rumor. Sony is currently working on multiple live-action series for Amazon, which will transfer their collection of Spider-Man characters to live-action for the first time.
Directed by Joaquim dos Santos, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 swings onto silver screens in 2022 from Sony Pictures Animation.
