RUMOR: Charlie Cox to Return as Daredevil for Spider-Man 3
Shortly after the announcement of actor Alfred Molina reprising his role as the villainous Doc Ock in the third untitled Spider-Man, a multitude of casting rumors have come to light, which implies a deeper and more complex plot. Among popular Spider-Man stars that could return comes a Netflix underdog that fans are still adamant to save.
Actor Charlie Cox, otherwise known as Daredevil, the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, is rumored to return to Marvel. After the wildly popular street-level hero series stood out as one of Netflix's strongest original series, the demand for Daredevil to return to Marvel has been an ongoing outcry, even from the Daredevil actor himself. The series ran on Netflix from 2015-2018, following the story of Matt Murdock, blind lawyer by day and vigilante by night, as he tangles himself in the grittiest crimes of Hell's Kitchen, New York. Now that Netflix's rights to the title have been relinquished back to Marvel, the demand for more Daredevil has swept across social media.
Back in April, ComicBook's Adam Barnhardt interviewed with Cox before a quarantined Daredevil watch party. Cox denied any involvement with Spider-Man 3. "I hadn't heard those rumors, but it's certainly not with my Daredevil. I'm not involved in it," Cox tells us. "If that's true, it's not with me. It's with another actor." This is not the first time that cast members have denied involvement with specific projects that they are cast in. Actress Hailee Steinfeld pulled a similar tactic, denying reports of being cast as Kate Bishop and now being spotted on the set of Hawkeye in a comics-accurate costume.
If Cox is bluffing to keep his role under wraps, this will mean that Kevin Feige and his Marvel team will bridge the acknowledgment between cinematic and televised Marvel property. Whether the crossover of televised and cinematic universes will collide, there is no confirmation of who else we might see. Marvel has yet to even disclose a name for their movie, which will release December 21, 2021.
