RUMOR: 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2' Will Have The Spot as its Villian

Sony Animation surprised and delighted with its 2018 animated Spider-Man feature, and its post-credit scene left the door wide open for its upcoming spinoff. Just as there are more Spider-heroes on the way, there are new villains to antagonize them.

Murphy's Multiverse takes a premature gamble on who will be one of the dominant villains in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 (2022), and they predict that the obscure Spider-Man and Daredevil The Spot will make his big-screen debut. Though he's been seen throughout the comics and in Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994-1998), this would be the first time that this foe would be a key player in Marvel's movies.

Dr. Johnathan "The Spot" Ohnn made his Marvel Comics debut in 1984's Spectacular Spider-Man #97. Working for The Kingpin as a scientist, Ohnn researched the ways of replicating the levels of radiation that superhero Cloak emitted in order to copy his powers. In a somewhat success, Ohnn opened a black portal, but due to the high volume of power that the experiment required, New York City was hit with a blackout. After entering the portal, Ohnn was transmitted into a new dimension, different than the one of Cloak's.

Once upon his return from the portal, Ohnn's body was covered in black spots which were discovered to be portals at his own disposal, moving them as he saw fit, and moving his body parts through them in a seemingly infinite distance. After realizing how powerful his new abilities were, Ohnn took to his life of crime, donning the fitting alias of The Spot.

Established in the first Spider-Verse movie, the series is eager to take a look into new dimensions and explore other realities, meaning that The Spot having, well, a spot in the web-slinging saga would allow him to fit right in. The sequel is well over a year away from its release, and there's the advisory that rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 swings onto big screens on October 7, 2022.
