Tom Holland Is Not Under Marvel Contract After 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'

After his debut as the teenage web-slinger in Captain America: Civil War (2016), actor Tom Holland became the Spider-Man for the modern-day. Since his work with Marvel, the 24-year-old has taken on a number of projects both in and out of comic book cinema. Now, he's taking time for himself.

"I’m going to take a break and travel the world," Holland said during a conversation with USA Today while discussing plans after Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) has wrapped. "It's the first time since I signed on to [Spider-Man: Homecoming] that I don't have a contract with someone. I might go skiing because that's something I've not really been allowed to do because it's obviously a dangerous sport. I've been very careful over the years, which is why I've become obsessed with golf because it's the only sport I can play without getting injured."

Holland is admittedly looking forward to his break from being in the spotlight, he assures fans that he would like to continue playing the part of Peter "Spider-Man" Parker for Marvel Studios. “I'm very lucky that I look young and I can continue to play this 17-year-old web-slinger. I will do that for as long as they will have me. If they want me to make 10 Spider-Man movies, you better believe I will be there,” Holland added. “But Cherry was [my] big leap. I'm really interested to see the types of doors that it opens and the doors that it closes.”

Spider-Man: No Way Home is the last joint Spider-Man title between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, meaning that Holland's contract obligates him to one more mandatory on-screen appearance as the Masked Menace after the trilogy's last chapter. There has been no word on whether Sony and Marvel will invite Holland to stay with the superhero mogul, or if Sony will take the arachnid-inspired hero franchise into their own hands moving forward.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is to release in theaters on December 21, 2021
